Welcome to the new web page of the School of Nautical Studies and Marine Engineering (ETSNM) of the University of A Corunna, where it will be possible to find information about the professional degrees given here, STCW (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) courses and other activities. This School, whose origins trace back to the XVI century, is the only Centre of the Galician University System that offers education and training in Merchant Marine (Deck Officers and Engineer Officers).
At the present time in this Centre you can pursue:
- Degree in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport that has two specialties: “Ship’s Nautical Operation” that allows to access to the professional exercise of Deck Officer of the Merchant Navy and “Management and Maritime Administration” focused on to companies of the nautical and port sector and to the Maritime Administration.
- Degree in Marine Engineering that also has two specialties: “Energy and Propulsion” that allows to access to the professional exercise of Marine Engineering of the Merchant Navy and “ Electro-Technical Officer” (ETO) to work as Electro-Technical Officer on board ships.
- Master Degree in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport that gives access to the graduated in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport (Ship`s Nautical Operation specialty) to the professional qualification as Master Mariner (Ship’s Captain) once that they have completed a period of approved education and training and meet the standard of competence specified in the STCW
- Master Degree in Marine Engineering that gives access to the graduated in Marine Engineering (Energy and Propulsion specialty) to the exercise of Chief Engineer of the Merchant Navy once that they have completed a period of approved education and training and meet the standard of competence specified in the STCW
The main aim of the School of Nautical Studies and Marine Engineering is the academic training of professionals highly qualified in the fields mentioned above, providing a solid cultural, scientific and technological education with the aim to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledges of the maritime field and also of the industrial, administration and research. To fulfil with this aim the ETSNM has highly qualified professors, the majority with professional experience in all type of merchant navy ships and other related maritime sectors. Besides, through the agreements of collaboration, the students can complete his training by practices in companies, institutions of the sector and in merchant navy ships. In addition, it is worth to mention that the ETSNM has exchange agreements with Spanish and overseas universities where the students can complete part of his or her studies.
